My great grandfather Patrick McAlister (1847-1920) arrived in Australia around 1870 and was a native of Antrim. Despite much research, he covered his tracks well but I think (from DNA links) that he was connected to the McAlisters that inhabited Irish Omerbane until the early 20C. I'm intending to visit in mid September and will visit Newtowncrommelin as well as the graveyards in Glenravel. I know that there were/are MANY McAlisters in this area but does anyone have specific information about the McAlister tribe that inhabited Irish Omerbane in the 1800s?
