Good day. My name is William (Bill) McCann from Austin, Texas. I have some documentation that at least five generations of my McCann ancestors were born and lived in County Antrim. My 3rd great-grandfather was Patrick McCann. His son Donald Raye was my second great-grandfather. Donald's son, William (Willie), my great grandfather, immigrated to the United States in the mid 1800s.
The 1851 Irish census and Griffiths land records show Patrick and his sons Patrick and Donald farmed in or near the Dungonnell townland. Other family members worked as linen weavers. I also have some limited information showing that my 3rd great grandfather Patrick's father, Hugh, and Hugh's father, also named Patrick, were born and lived in County Antrim.
I visited the area briefly last week (June 21) and was taken with its solitude and beauty. I wish now that I had spent more time there. Today after returning to Texas I stumbled on the Facebook page about Dungonnell Dam and also joined the Glens of Antrim Historical Society site.
During last week's visit, I spoke to a lady in Newtown-Crommellin and she tried unsuccessfully to direct us to the Dungonnell Dam, saying there are a number of McCanns living near there. Unfortunately we got a bit lost (GPS was not much help) and needed to get to Portrush.
I am hoping to contact County Antrim McCanns who are related to me. I would love to learn more about my McCann family and history. Thank you for any assistance you may provide. My email address is bmccann42@gmail.com.

Hi Bill, goodness how unfortunate you missed getting in touch, and you were actually in Glenravel. I am Stephanie O’Neill nee McCann. Born and raised in Dungonnell and currently living just outside Newtowncrommelin. If the lady you had been speaking to in Newtowncrommelin was a local they not only would have sent you to me, less than 1 mile away, but I could have taken you to Dungonnell. The McCanns don’t just live near Dungonnell, but in Dungonnell. My father, mother and sister, my brother and his family, an uncle and 3 cousins and their families all still live on the road. And within a 2 miles radius, you will find 3 more uncles and numerous cousins. We have historical information that takes our McCanns arriving in Dungonnell in the early 1700, your McCanns too I guess.

The information the other respondent has replied with is relevant, as the Archibald McCann mentioned is my Great Grandfather, for whom my father, also Archie was named. Again it’s a pity you didn’t get good information when you were here, just a few miles from your ancestors home.

1911 census lists 11 homes in Dungonnell, 2 of which were occupied by McCanns. Access to those properties today should be from the modern Dungonnell Rd which goes up to the dam.

Michael McCann was living elsewhere in 1901. Not certain he’s a native of Dungonnell:

They will likely have attended Glenravel chapel, as may any descendants alive today. You could write to the priest and ask if he can put you in touch with any McCanns from Dungonnell. (Maybe enclose several copies of a letter he can give them?)
